Mykonos, Greece

When your kids are 2 (not even) and 4, you’re really only travelling for yourself.

They don't care if you're holidaying in the Greek Islands, all they care about is how long they can stay in the pool, and whether they can convince you to let them have ice cream AND frozen yoghurt in one day.

I visited the Greek Islands 14 years ago (literally about to have a nervous breakdown about ageing over here) but when mum said she’d like to visit them with us since we were heading over to Europe…well, how could we say no when she does all that childcare for us?

The towns were still charming, the food was still great, the water was still crystal clear, and the beaches were still average (but they do know how to party better than in Oz). So we split our time between exploring and the pools, we even managed to drink and dance without the kids – the benefit of an extra set of hands while traveling.

We wandered through Mykonos, enjoying delicious food and wine (despite Wilder's best efforts to ensure I always ate my meals cold).

We lazed by the beach soaking up DJ beats, people watching and visiting local tavernas.

And then we jumped on a ferry headed for our next adventure: Santorini
